Huntingdonshire Green Heart Awards 2011

Huntingdonshire Green Heart Community Awards are once again looking for applications to find those inspirational projects and motivated people who have been working so hard over the past 12 months to help the local environment.

The awards recognise those community groups and individuals who are getting together and making a real change in their community by reducing their environmental footprint.

From energy projects, waste and recycling schemes to sustainable growing schemes and environmental awareness raising events, to getting ideas off the ground, there are people out there who are making a difference.

We want to find out about what has motivated the people of Huntingdonshire to take environmental action, what has been helpful to make their projects successful and what challenges they have faced and overcome along the way. We are inviting applications under six main categories:

o Best environmental school
o Young green achiever of the year
o Best sustainable refurbishment project
o Environmental business of the year
o Green volunteer of the year
o Best environmental project

Other people’s projects can be both inspirational and motivational and that’s why we want to find out more about the excellent environmental community projects taking place in Huntingdonshire.

We certainly came across many inspirational people and projects at the awards in 2010. Here is a quick reminder of the winners:

Best Environmental Seconday School – St Ivo School
Best Environmental Primary School – Brampton Village Primary School
Green Volunteer of the Year – Betty Ball from Warboys
Best Environmental Project – Gransdens Allotment and Leisure Gardeners’ Society
Best Environmental Group – Greener Futures
Environmental Business of the Year – HeatingSave

All the winners went away feeling very proud of themselves and so they should be. The work they have been involved in and continue to be involved in provides great benefit to individuals and our district.

The entry pack is available to download from the Hunts Post  website or by contacting the Environment Team on 01480 388388

An awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday 4 June as part of the celebrations for World Environment Day.
